Were You Impressed?

 

Winter in Vancouver is usually quite(1) mild. But sometimes, it snows quite a lot. Sometimes, it can get pretty cold. Occasionally(2), the perfect condition for ice skating happens. After a lot of rain, the weather turns very cold. This means many fields will first flood. Then with cold(3) weather, the fields freeze into huge ice skating rinks! On sunny days, it is so beautiful skating in such a wide area with snow covered mountains watching all the skaters! So when the two Japanese girls came to our high school on a home stay program, what a wonderful chance to impress the girls with beautiful scenery, Canadian weather and my great skating skills!

 

The fields were frozen. The sun was shining. The mountains looked wonderful! I invited the two Japanese(4) girls to go ice skating. They said they did not want to skate. However, they would love to watch me ice skate! I picked them up, and we drove to a large frozen field. We could easily see the white-capped(5) mountains not far away. There were some(6) people enjoying skating on the field. I was a pretty good ice hockey player. I was not the best, but I could skate pretty well. The girls were warmly dressed. They looked very(7) fashionable with their stylish clothes. Eager to impress them, I very quickly put my skates on. They looked very happy, clapping their hands and saying, “We love ice skating!”

 

With great force, I pushed my legs to gain speed! I was fast. Turning left, my skates glided smoothly on the shining ice! Turning left again, I pushed harder, going even faster! I quickly turned to the right(8), pushing each leg as much as I could. I could see the two girls at the edge of the field(9). I quickly skated towards them and swiftly stopped spraying ice high in the air! I felt very good! The two girls looked at each other, “Can you spin, too?” Feeling confused, I replied, “Spin? I can’t spin. But, I can skate backwards. Watch this!” With expert ice hockey(10) skills, I showed them my best! Unfortunately, I think they were let down. I think they were expecting Yuzuru Hanyu. Nonetheless, the two girls joyfully yelled out, “Show us again!” And in the end, I think they really were truly impressed. It really was a very wonderful sunny winter day!
